Swimming FliesWoolhead Muddler - BrownThe Brown Woolhead is one of six variations in my Woolhead Muddler Series. The inspiration for the Woolhead Muddler is the Marabou Muddler which was Dan Bailey's version of the original Muddler Minnow. Woolhead Muddler - ChartreuseThe Chartreuse Woolhead is one of six color variations in my Woolhead Muddler Series. The others are; Brown Woolhead, Baby Bass, Baby Bluegill, Black Woolhead and White Woolhead. Woolhead Muddler - Baby BassThe Baby Bass is one of the patterns in the Woolhead Muddler Series. Woolhead Muddler - BlackThe Black Woolhead Muddler is one of six patterns in the Woolhead Muddler Series. Woolhead Muddler - Baby BluegillThe Baby Bluegill is one of six patterns in the Woolhead Muddler Series. Woolhead Muddler - WhiteThe White Woolhead is one of the patterns in the Woolhead Muddler Series. The Yellow TailJointed (articulated) flies are flies that have two or more parts joined together with a hinge made from a loop of wire, monofiliment or fly line backing. Properly tied they can be deadly for bass and other preditor gamefish. Ward's Articulated StreamerWhen nothing is happening on top I often resort to the Articulated Streamer and the fish generally are more accomodating. The Drop Nose MinnowThis is my version of a Gary LaFontaine fly for big trout that also works well for the Black Basses. The Plan "B"This streamer doesn't resemble a Girdle Bug or a Woolly Bugger but it has the best qualities of both flies plus a little something extra. The Calcasieu Pig BoatThis is a famous Tom Nixon pattern tied by Warmwater Fly Tyer's "Featured Tier" John Peterie of Plano, Texas. Flashabou Steamer - GoldThe Flashabou Streamer is a great fly to use on bright days over weedbeds. It really brings bass up out of the weeds. The Super Silver MinnowThe Super Silver Minnow, created by Tom Keith, is a very effective Crappie fly. The HairyMara MinnowThe HairyMara is a little swimming fly that I wrote about in Fly Tyer magazine back in 2001. I have used it primarily for Crappie and White Bass but it should work well for all minnow eating gamefish. The Woolhead LeechThe Woolhead Leech was designed to imitate the common leech that's found in many ponds and lakes throughout North America. Large preditory gamefish including panfish love to munch of leeches. Soft Hackle Bi-BuggerThe Bi-Bugger is designed to represent sculpins and crayfish. It's not only a great Trout streamer, it's also a great Smallmouth Bass lure. The Rabbit Strip Minnow - ShadThe Rabbit Strip Shad is one in a series of rabbit strip minnows created by Barry Reynolds, author of "Pike on the Fly." Barry uses these tough guys to catch other tough guys like Pike, Bass, and Walleye. Rabbit Strip Minnow - BluegillThe Rabbit Strip Bluegill is one in a series of Rabbit Strip Minnows that are designed to take tough gamefish like pike and big bass. The Fatal Attraction - Baby SunfishThe Fatal Attraction, originated by Dan Blanton, was named by his wife because it was so deadly on everything from big panfish to Alaskan Salmon. The Baby Sunfish pattern is a great Largemouth Bass lure. Two other variations of the Baby Sunfish, described in the "Tying Notes," are deadly on Smallies and other gamefish. Swimming CrayfishThis little Crayfish pattern is based on Bob Clouser's Swimming Nymph. Brad Befus, author of the book "Carp on the Fly" and the video "Tying Flies for Carp," considers it one of his favorite Carp flies. Mini-BuggerThe Mini-Bugger is by far the smallest streamer in my fly box. It's not only a great small stream trout fly but it can be dynamite on bluegills and other panfish. Craft Fur MinnowThe Craft Fur Minnow is a variation of the Clouser Deep Minnow but it's composed of Craft Fur instead of the traditional bucktail. Craft Fur Clouser - Baby SmallmouthThis Clouser Baby Smallmouth is composed of Craft Fur in place of the traditional bucktail. Craft Fur Clouser - Chartreuse and WhiteThe Chartreuse and White Clouser made with Craft Fur is a great alternative to bucktail hair that is stipulated in most Clouser Deep Minnow patterns. Kentucky Wonder StreamerThe Kentucky Wonder Streamer is the wet fly version of the Kentucky Wonder Slider that has proven to be very productive on Smallmouth, Neosho strain Smallmouth, and Kentucky Spotted Bass. Lite-Brite LeechThe Lite-Brite Leech is my version of my friend Mike Jacob's Leech that has proven so effective for him over the years. Dahlberg's Flash DancerThe Flash Dancer was originally designed to fish for Smallmouth Bass. Rabbit Strip LeechThe Strip Leech is an easy fly to tie. The entire fly, tail and body, is made from a single Zonker Strip. Stillwater Bluegill StreamerThis unique streamer tied by "Featured Tier" Max Birnkammer is a great black bass lure. Hipps's HellCrawFeatured Tier Anthony Hipps shows you how to tie his HellCraw. I have taken many smallmouth bass and some huge catfish with this little streamer. Wilson's Bass BullyThie is Featured Tier Terry Wilson's favorite streamer for taking both largemouth and smallmouth bass. The Rattle RouserThe Rattle Rouser was created several years ago by Kirk Dietrich a fly tyer and fishing guide from Arabi, Louisiana. Kirk wrote an excellant article about the Rattle Rouser for the Autumn 1995 issue of Fly Tyer Magazine. The Red-Faced WobblerThe Red-Faced Wobbler has been a very effective streamer for a variety of gamefish including the black basses, bluegill, and crappies. The Chili PepperThe Chili Pepper was designed by Featured Tier Tony Spezio. He claims that it's his top fish catiching fly for all kinds of gamefish in cold, warm, and salt water. Beaner's BaitfishBeaner's Baitfish is a streamer that is made almost entirely from hen cape feathers. It has become a very productive streamer for black bass, crappie, northern pike, and other gamefish. The Jointed MInnowThe Jointed Minnow is a two-part articulated fly made by joining two Mustad 3366 hooks and then covering them with a relatively new material called Wapsi Palmer Chenille. This technique allows you to create a very realistic and animated baitfish imitation. The Bronze GoddessThe Bronze Goddess is the creation of my good friend and angling partner Mike Jacobs. Mike wrote an article for the Autumn 2011 issue of the Fly Tyer Magazine introducing the Goddess to the magazine's subscribers. Finally, visitors to warmwaterflytyer will have instructions for tying this little streamer that Mike says is the best smallmouth fly in his fly box.
